miles,
Ohio
shares a border with our state.
After you “cross” the Ohio River,
West
Virginia
shares a borderwithour state. This
part ofWest Virginia is called a
panhandle
.
The border for this part of West Virginia is
shaped like the handle on a pan.
Now, place your finger on the
southwestern corner of Pennsylvania’s
southern border. There are three states that
share the southern border with our state.
For adistanceof 60miles,WestVirginia still
borders our state. Then,
Maryland
shares
the largest part of our southern border. The
distance is about 230 miles. Next, you will
trace a small area that has a curved border
line. This border looks like part of a circle.
Pennsylvania shares this border with the
small state of
Delaware
.
Finally, notice that Pennsylvania’s
eastern border is not straight. That is
because it is formed by the Delaware River.
Use your finger to trace the river north. To
the east of the river is
New Jersey
. Farther
north on the
Delaware River
, New York
State is to the east. This ends our finger trip
around the borders of Pennsylvania.
