Do you know the difference between
weather
and
climate
?Weather is something you
can see and feel outside everyday. During goodweather, you can go to the playground
during recess. During badweather, you have indoor recess.
Climate is the averageweather an area gets over a long period of time. Our state’s
climate has four different seasons. We have coldwinters andwarm summers. We also
have cool springs and falls. During the year, we do not usually get very hot or cold
temperatures.
Pennsylvania receives about 42 inches of
precipitation
each year. This is enough
water to support the growth of trees and plants. Precipitation is the amount of water that
falls to the earth. It could be in the form of rain, snow, or ice. Hot summers with plenty of
rain are good for growing things.
There are some days inwhich it rains or snows all day. On some days, schools are
closed or delayed because of snow and ice storms. Sometimes, Pennsylvania gets very
bad storms, such as hurricanes or tornadoes. However, these storms are rare.
