We have 58,000 farms in our state. There aremany kinds of farms.
Dairy

of milk andmilk products. Our
state is the second largest maker of ice cream.

farms where animals such as chickens, hogs, and turkeys are
raised. The animals or their products are sold. Our state is a leading egg-producing state.
Pennsylvania is well known for its
orchards
, or fruit farms. Our state is a leading
producer of apples and peaches. Other important fruits raised are cherries, grapes,
and pears.
We also have different kinds of special farms. A farm producing vegetables and fruits,
such as potatoes and strawberries, is called a truck farm. Pennsylvania hasmushroom
farms, also. Our state is the number one producer of mushrooms. We also have tree
farms. Our state is a leading producer of Christmas trees.
Cows and other animals are raised on livestock farms.
