Physical Features of the Southeast Region
The land in the southeast has many physical features. They range from the coastal beaches along
theAtlanticOceanand theGulf ofMexico to theAppalachianMountains in the interior part of this region.
You can tour thewetlands
(LLB=Lesson 13)
of the bayous of Louisiana or theEvergladesNational Park
of Florida. However, watch them gators. According to one tour guide, alligators can jump five feet out of
thewater into your boat!Youwill also findmany rivers draining the freshwater of this region.

Alabama and continuing into West Virginia and Virginia. Directly to the east of the Appalachian
Mountains is a hilly landform known as the Piedmont Plateau. If you need help, check your

Part C – Locating andLabeling

ofmost of these rivers canbe found inother regions. These rivers empty into theGulf ofMexicoor the
AtlanticOcean. Trace the rivers in blue colored pencils or crayons and label them.
