telecommunications.We now have cellular
phones, home computers and email, high-
speed internet connections, digital cameras,
and portable music players, to mention a
few. Billions of dollars in trade are carried
out by computers inoneday. Today, instead
of using encyclopedias,
CD-ROMs
and the
Internet have become very practical for
finding information.
As you have learned, the ways we live and
work are constantly being changed by
technology or new inventions. Some people
are calling the 1990s and 2000s the age of the
information superhighway. The important
point is that change is always happening.
These changes are allowing us to work, live,
and play differently than just 50 years ago.
Again, that is what progress is all about.
Pennsylvania is still awonderful place to
live. Every eight out of 10 peoplewhowere
born in our state remain in the state. That
means that Pennsylvanians like to live in
the state that they were born. Because of
our good location and geography, there are
still plenty of good farmlands and business
opportunities for people. We have up-to-
date communication systems, rail systems,
highway systems, airport systems, trade
systems, and recreation systems. We also
have one of the nation’s lowest crime rates.
Let us keep our state of Pennsylvania a
wonderful place to live.
