people needed were in the cities.

bank, clothing store, grocery store, movie
theater, church, or school. The automobile
has allowed us to spread out from the city.

Because of the automobile, the spread of
suburbs really began. Another reason for
the growth of suburbs was that there was
little space left in the cities. The car allowed
