Lesson 54:
Geographical Regions of Asia
By now, you have learned that we study geography by five common themes.One of those themes
is regions. Asia is an immense continent separated into 49 different countries.There are even greater
numbersof ethnicgroupsand languages.Oncewe learn the regions,wewill studyeachoneseparately.
ACTIVITY 1:
Because there are so many countries in Asia, it is helpful to divide the continent into geographical
regions. Asia is sectioned into 6 different regions. Look at the map on the next page. Each of the
regions listed below has a number beside it.
1. Southwest Asia
2.NorthAsia
3.Central Asia
4. SouthAsia
5. East Asia
6. Southeast Asia
1. Each region has been labelledwith a number. Find the number for each region on the activitymap
on the next page.
2.Write the name of the region in the blank space on themap.
3.Trace each geographical in a different color marker or pencil.
ACTIVITY 2:
In the chart below is an alphabetical listing of the countries of Asia.Using themaps on the next page,
write the number of the Asian region next to each country to which it belongs on the chart. Russia is
the only country inRegion 2. A number 2 has been placed next toRussia in this chart.
